Fantasy Premier League Game Week29: Time To Ditch Manchester United Defender Phil Jones

Fantasy Premier League Game Week29: Time To Ditch Manchester United Defender Phil Jones

Gameweek 28 was a relatively low-scoring affair, with a 49-point average that only increased following some usual Manchester City suspects bringing in those all-important points on Thursday night.

The big winners from this week were Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku, who almost single-handedly downed Chelsea, and Mohamed Salah, who picked up one goal and one assist during Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over West Ham United.

Picking three players to buy and sell for this gameweek proved quite difficult, but we’ve given it our best shot…

Three players to buy:

Andrew Robertson – Liverpool - £4.8million

The Liverpool left-back has certainly been racking up the points recently, securing 19 points over his last four gameweeks; for a defender, that’s a pretty good total. I also like the fact that the Red Men have been much more solid over the last month, keeping two clean-sheets over the same 4-match period.

Robertson is a cheap option at just £4.8million. He’s now almost a certainty to start under Jurgen Klopp which is essential when picking your FPL teams. I also love his 5% ownership, allowing you to pick up some easy points while the majority of your opponents won’t be.

Emre Can – Liverpool - £4.9million

Yes, that’s right. I’m doubling down on cheap Liverpool players this week, and why not? The German midfielder scored one and assisted one against West Ham United last time out, while also picking up the maximum three bonus points.

However, this isn’t a viable option for everyone, particularly players who have Mohamed Salah in their team already, as you’re only allowed three footballers fron any given team, and I don’t often like to have two players from the same club who are playing in the same FPL position.

Leroy Sane – Manchester City - £8.4million

With Raheem Sterling missing with injury, Leroy Sane is a must have. At just £8.4million and 8% player selection, the brilliant German is going under the radar somewhat, and I’m not quite sure why.

He bossed Arsenal on Thursday night, scoring once, tacking on an assist and picking up two bonus points. This lad is a big-game player and Manchester City takes on Chelsea this week. I fully expect Sane to have another huge game.

Three players to sell:

Phil Jones – Manchester United - £5.6million

Somewhat surprisingly, despite being injured recently, Phil Jones is still owned by 10%... Why?! If you’re one of these people, I urge you to get rid as soon as you can.

Jones has been a liability for the Red Devils recently and although he has a 50% change at returning this weekend, there is no way that Jose Mourinho is going to let him out of the doghouse just yet. Take a look at Chris Smalling if you want a Manchester United alternative.

Gerard Deulofeu – Watford - £6.0million

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The 23-year-old FC Barcelona winger has suffered a stress fracture in his right-foot and who knows how long he’ll be out for… It’s a shame because I was coming round to the idea of selecting him myself, but now I wouldn’t be surprised if his season was over.

Anyway, to the 3.2% of FPL managers who have the Spaniard in their sides, it’s time to sell and get rid. What’s the point of wasting £6million out of your precious budget?

Pascal Gross – Brighton - £5.9million

Brighton’s key man has been struggling, in FPL terms anyway. He’s scored just the once since GW19, while only adding two assists over the same period.

Perhaps a large portion of that is down to players giving up as they’re too far behind in their respective leagues, but that still seems high to me; particularly when that money can be wisely invested elsewhere.

You have less than 24 hours to make your changes for GW29, so don’t forget to make any necessary transfers before 11:30 GMT tomorrow.

Good luck and we’ll see you next week.
