Fantasy Premier League – Gameweek Four Preview: Start Making Those Big Transfers!

Fantasy Premier League – Gameweek Four Preview: Start Making Those Big Transfers!
09:25, 07 Sep 2017

Relax, folks, the international break is finally over and domestic football is close to returning. Fantasy Premier League comes back with a bang, as there are some cracking fixtures in the offing; it all kicks off with Manchester City hosting Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime.

The two-week hiatus can prove to be a troubling time for us fantasy managers. Do we play the wildcard? Do we save our wildcard? There’s certainly a lot of head scratching going on at this point in time, and I genuinely understand the logic if you decide to use this international opportunity to make as many changes as you require.

We’re at that point in the season where we’re getting a good idea of who the consistent performers are, so here’s our three players to bring in and three players to bin off ahead of another exciting weekend sat in front of our television screens watching Jeff and the boys.

Three players to bring in

Jonas Lossl – Huddersfield Town - £4.5million

I think we’ve all been pleasantly surprised by the start that The Terriers have made, and they deserve all the credit in the world right now. Their goalkeeper, Jonas Lossl, is yet to concede a Premier League goal and at £4.5million he’s an absolute steal as your backup shot-stopper.

The Dane has only been selected by 7.3% of teams which is a considerably low amount given his opening season form. He’s already picked up three bonus points thanks to some brilliant performances, too. David Wagner, alongside plenty of FPL managers will be hoping for that form to continue.

Sadio Mane – Liverpool - £9.6million

The Senegal international has been absolutely sensational for Liverpool from the get-go. At the start of the campaign, I wasn’t sure what to expect of Jurgen Klopp’s men, but they’ve been superb despite the fact that Philippe Coutinho’s future remained up in the air.

Mane has scored in each of his three fixtures so far, amassing a lovely 22 points. His ownership has now been bumped up to around the 30% mark and you can see exactly why. He’s one of the few expensive FPL footballers who
have proven to be value for money thus far.

Alvaro Morata – Chelsea - £10.1million

After a poor outing in the Community Shield, the Spaniard has proved a lot of doubters wrong with an excellent start to his debut season in England. He already has two goals and two assists – which has led to a price increase to £10.1million already.

What I like most about Morata is his low ownership at just 13%, as well as the five bonus points that he has picked up so far. Chelsea take on Leicester City and Arsenal over the next couple of weeks so this will be a real test of his mettle against some top quality competition.

Three players to wave goodbye to

Petr Cech or any Arsenal defender

I’m bending the rules a little here, but Arsenal’s defence is looking like an absolute shambles right now. If you have any of their centre-backs in your FPL teams, please remove them immediately because their defensive woes don’t look like ending any time soon.

Hector Bellerin has been poor as has Shkodran Mustafi. The only possible exception to the rule is new boy Sead Kolasinac, but then again, there is no guarantee that he’ll start at the moment.

Kevin de Bruyne – Manchester City - £9.9million

First of all, I just want to say that Kevin de Bruyne is a spectacular footballer to watch, however, his early season form just hasn’t been great in FPL terms. The Belgian hasn’t registered a goal or an assist, and his price has already dropped from the £10.0million that he cost at the start.

His ownership has been on the decline right now, but he’s still included in almost 20% of teams and I’m not quite sure why. For now, the former Chelsea player is probably one to avoid until he starts racking up the points on a consistent basis.

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City - £11.5million

Sorry, City fans. It probably feels like I’m picking on you right about now but I’m not. Sergio Aguero scored in GW1, struggled in GW2 and was benched during GW3. Pep Guardiola has seemingly always favoured Gabriel Jesus over his Argentinian counterpart – and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue this weekend.

Yes, there is always the chance that a player of Aguero’s calibre can come off the bench and make the required impact, but £11.5million is a large section of your budget to be gambled on a likely substitute.

Well, that’s that lads & lasses. Good luck for another week and here’s to hoping we’re all seeing green arrows after the final match of the weekend on Monday night.
