Wow indeed, Thierry.
The Arsenal legend’s introduction to the world of management with Monaco got off to an inauspicious start last night as his new side fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Strasbourg.
They trailed 1-0 after just seventeen minutes when young keeper Seydou Sy made a bad error, fumbling a headed effort and paying the price for his mistake.
It would remain that way until after the hour mark, whereupon the 41-year-old Frenchman elected to make a change, bringing on the winger Samuel Grandsir, but it wouldn’t prove impactful for Henry, or at least not positively impactful.
The youngster was only on the pitch for two minutes when he saw red for catching an opponent in the face with his boot.
Strasbourg would soon put a second past their visitors, before Youri Tielemans scored a late response for Monaco from the penalty spot in injury time.
That couldn’t have been described as the best of introductions to management for Henry at his former club, who are only kept off the bottom rung of the Ligue ladder by goal difference. He wasn’t too downbeat after the game, though.
"It wasn't easy, we tried to put something in place which worked at the beginning, and then we conceded that goal that I don't need to describe... Human error, I don't want to wipe the floor with anyone," said Henry.
"Then we tried to change the game, and unfortunately Sam (Grandsir) is sent off. After that it was even harder, but we still tried to keep playing ... I want to keep positive despite the negatives…”
Less than 20 minutes in and his goalkeeper dropped a clanger 🙈
Monaco would go on to lose 2-1 to Strasbourg.
Who would be a manager, eh? 😂
Thierry Henry introduces a sub to try and change things up...
Two minutes later he accidentally kicks an opponent in the face and gets sent off 🙈
