Jon Rahm looked in decent shape as he stepped up to the 7th tee during his second round at The Open Championship. The fiery Spaniard was -1 for the day and -3 overall, however disaster struck.
The golfing gods then cursed Rahm, who is bidding to win his first major at The Open, as he carded a triple-bogey, bogey, and double bogey in succession, dropping an eye-popping six shots in the space of three horrific holes.
The talented but thunderous 23-year-old is no stranger to losing his cool, and made no secret of his anger at the close of his opening nine holes (back nine). He was, unsurprisingly, absolutely fuming with himself, sprouting out unrepeatable expletives and hurling his club away in fury.
Meanwhile, Thursday’s overnight leader Kevin Kisner will be fuming with himself after dropping two shots on the final hole of his second round.
The American flew out of the traps on the opening day, registering a five-under-par 66 to lead the way at the top of the leaderboard. He then looked to be all set to open up a two shot clubhouse lead at the end of his second round on Friday, but frustratingly carded a double bogey on the 18th, meaning he joined Zach Johnson back on -6.
Earlier in the day Tommy Fleetwood stormed to -5 on the leaderboard after a fantastic round of 72. Meanwhile, former Open champion Rory McIlroy will be full of confidence on -4 as he bids to end his four-year wait for another major trophy.
