The supposedly retired former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather isn’t ready for the pipe and slippers combo just yet and has been fuelling speculation about the possibility of him lacing up his gloves once - or even twice - more.
The notoriously flashy 41-year-old was his usual boisterous self, responding to the challenge of the UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for a crossover bout, claiming that the fight is somewhat on.
But not content to manage the overtures of one MMA star, he’s keen to line up a rematch with Conor McGregor, who he defeated in a money-spinning boxing contest last year.
"McGregor was talking that sh*t, so it ain't over,” he said.
"After me and Khabib lock up, me and McGregor we gonna lock up again."
Rather funnily he also claims that he wants the bout with the Irishman for the sake of the public and the sport.
"I'm ready to go out there and get the job done and entertain. 'Cause me and McGregor was real entertaining. I gave people what they wanted to see."
"I'm helping keep combat sports alive!"
It’s difficult to believe that the prospect of another pair of nine-figure paydays isn’t what really motivates “Money” Mayweather into stepping back into the ring and risking his perfect 50-0 professional record.
The Michigan man has also raised the prospect about a rematch with old foe Manny Pacquiao, too, who he defeated back in 2015.
Considering the fact that his win over Pacquiao was considered to have come so late in both of their careers as to have undervalued it, it’s not clear how much appetite there’d be for that bout.
