Manchester City’s victory parade around the Premier League continues as they host Huddersfield Town at the Etihad this Sunday lunchtime.
Numbers and records are all that Pep Guardiola’s title-winners are chasing now, with the 100 point milestone well with their reach with three games remaining. They didn’t seem in the mood to come down a gear from their ferocious pace when dispatching Swansea 5-0 and West Ham 4-1 in their last two league games. The total points and goals records could both go if they put in a similar display against their latest challengers.
David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town side have confounded the grim predictions that greeted them on their miraculous ascent to the first division and sit three points clear of the drop in 16th.
The home side are heavily favoured to win this one, as you’d imagine, and are priced up at 1/12. The draw is a 12/1 shot and the visitors are an incredible 33/1 shot to nick a result.
Looking at those prices in the win-draw-win market it might seem impossible to make a case for anything other than a resounding home win - but, here we go: the Terriers come into this one with a whole lot more on the line than their hosts, with the prospect of another season in dreamland at the tip of their fingers. As gutsy as they are, they can be trusted to outperform the level that the odds would forecast them putting in.
They’ve beaten Manchester United already and, although this is a different task, they’re simply too short here - for all that they've been on a grim little run of form.
We want to take advantage of that. Handing Huddersfield the advantage of a three-goal headstart at 21/20 is a likeable option here and can cop should the visitors put the shift we’re forecasting from them this afternoon.
