World class boxing is to return to terrestrial TV in the UK after it was announced that ITV have signed a sensational deal with Premier Boxing Champions.
The broadcaster has signed a contract with Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions which will see a minimum of 15 shows a year shown, including some free-to-air on ITV1.
Haymon has grown into one of the key figures in the sport in the States over recent years with a host of superstars currently signed to a PBC contract, but this is the first time the company has signed a TV deal for their events to be shown on UK TV.
The shows will be spread across ITV1, ITV4, ITV Hub and ITV Boxing Office in a move which could help shake up the sport on this side of the pond with Sky Sports and BT likely to have taken note of the news today.
The PBS roster of fighters is littered with some top level names including Manny Pacquaio, Errol Spence and Mikey Garcia with all three now set to be fighting on ITV in 2019.
Indeed, Spence and Garcia will meet in March in a potential super-fight between two of the pound-for-pound kings of the sport and it will be a massive boost for fight fans in the UK that they will now have easy viewing access.
There are also strong rumours that the upcoming James Degale v Chris Eubank Jr fight could now be shown on ITV Box Office under the PBC deal with both companies looking to start the deal with a bang.
ITV were once a key player in the showing of boxing on terrestrial TV and it now appears as if they are back in the business which is a major boost to a sport which continues to go from strength-to-strength in the UK
