Former Leeds United Manager Paul Heckingbottom ‘Holds Talks’ With Hibernian

Hibernian appear to be edging closer to finding Neil Lennon’s successor at Easter Road after holding talks with Paul Heckingbottom.

Heckingbottom is looking to return to management for the first time since losing his job at Leeds last summer, when the Yorkshire outfit decided to axe him in order to make way for a certain Marcelo Bielsa.

Heckingbottom lasted a grand total of 16 games, and undoubtedly still feels hard done by considering that he was only given a few months to implement his ideas.

Prior to the job, the 41-year-old enjoyed immense success at Barnsley with whom he led to both Football League Trophy glory and promotion up to the Championship.

BBC Sport now reports that Heckingbottom has spoken to managerless Hibernian about the vacancy, but given that the club have been inundated with applications, he’s unlikely to be the only contender in the running for the SPL job.

However, bookmakers have now installed Heckingbottom as the smokin' hot odds-on favourite, while former Ipswich and QPR boss Jim Magilton has surprisingly been propelled into the frame.

But, one man who doesn’t want the permanent job is caretaker boss Eddie May who is looking forward to welcoming a new arrival in the dugout:

"I really look forward to the new guy coming in and everyone can get back to their roles and do what they have been brought to the club to do."

Here’s how fans have reacted on the good old medium of Twitter....some were less than impressed, while others backed the potential appointment.

So Hibs are seriously looking at a guy who managed Barnsley and Leeds Utd, the latter of which he was sacked after 4 months!!! Cheap option??? (@stevieshaw1980)

We must be able to attract better than him? (@AlanDuncan1971)

Guy had a great record at Barnsley and is still fairly highly rated down south, how many coaches have failed at Leeds!? (@Lee_Waton)

Did a fantastic job at Barnsley with limited funds. Fits the profile tbh. (@roo_richy)

I think he looks 1 of the best candidates. Barnsley fans speak highly about him and has developed some top players down south. Young and modern manager (@fitking1985)
