Former Liverpool man Emre Can is likely to miss Juventus' trip to Old Trafford this week.
The Champions League clash against Manchester United would have had special meaning for a player who was such a favourite at Anfield but Juventus today announced that Can needs further tests on a thyroid nodule that has been discovered.
The statement read: "Emre Can will undergo clinical tests and investigations for a thyroid nodule that could also require surgical treatment."
Can was an unused sub in Juventus' last outing, a 1-1 draw against Genoa last night.
The German international has made 10 appearances for Juventus this season since arriving on a free transfer from Liverpool in the summer.
A thyroid nodule occurs in the thyroid gland and are usually benign but can be malignant. A thyroid nodule is a lump in your thyroid gland which is in your neck, it's not an injury in the traditional sense. The thyroid gland releases hormones that affect your metabolism.
Can signed for Juventus despite interest from Bayern Munich, penning a four-year deal that is believed to be worth €4 million per season. The player spent his formative years at Bayern but joined Bayer Leverkusen where a single season was enough to convince Liverpool to spend £9.75 million and activate his release clause. There he gained a wealth of experience, playing over 150 games and making key contributions that helped steer the English club to the 2016 Europa League final, filling in a variety of roles but delivering consistently reliable performances.
