Former Scotland Striker Slams Celtic Defender For Refusing To Play For Club

Alan Brazil has slammed Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata and called him "a disgrace" after it's been rumoured that the Belgian defender has declared himself unfit to travel to Greece for Celtic's huge Champions League qualification match with AEK Athens this evening.

Boyata, who featured for Belgium at the World Cup, was pushing for a move away from Celtic Park before the transfer window slammed shut last week, but while the Scottish Premiership champions boss Brendan Rodgers rejected a reported £9m bid from Fulham on deadline day, it's been widely mentioned that Boyata is now refusing to play for the club.

We reported yesterday that the 27-year-old has fallen out with Rodgers, and Boyata has chosen not to travel for Celtic's match in Greece on Tuesday night, where they look to improve on a 1-1 draw in the first leg and beat AEK and force their way into the final qualification round of the Champions League.

While Rodgers has hinted that Boyata is not willing to play, as he eyes a move away before the European transfer window shuts at the end of August, Boyata took to Instagram to emphasise the fact that he is injured with his post saying, "Unfortunately, I could not play because I'm not yet 100% operational."

However, Brazil, who played for Scotland during the 1980s has used his Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT to lambast the defender, and called him a "disgrace."

Brazil said, "I don't know what he's {Boyata} playing at, as far as I am concerned he has to play tonight, he should've travelled, I think he's making a big, big mistake."  "It's a joke, it's a disgrace, bad character I would say....what sort of man is he!?, added Brazil.
