Leeds continued their Marcelo Bielsa love-in this week and it even reached new levels as he wowed the gathered press with an hour-long powerpoint of the research he puts into every game. Now, new footage has emerged of Bielsa, during his time at Marseille, advising the then Real Madrid Castilla manager Zinedine Zidane and allowing him to discuss training methods. Leeds' results clearly show that his methods work.
The video comes from around four years ago during Bielsa’s time in France, just before Zidane got the full-time gig at Real, where he lead them to a remarkable three Champions League titles in a row. In the video Bielsa can be seen just being an all-round great chap.
Marcelo Bielsa: “If you have time after the training, I could, if you are interested, explain in details the training. Is it good for you?”
Zinedine Zidane: “He asks if we have enough time to let him explain everything about training of today? Of course wonderful thank you very much!
MB “Do not see any vanity in what i say to you, but with your obligation I’m in to explain you. I tell you seriously, because another could refuse to explain to you. But since you are here it is very good for you to understand.
“So immediately after the training, I’ll come and explain to you details the training of today. There is two scenarios. On the top pitch, during the last 20 minutes of the game against Monaco, spaces have shrunk, we played in the opponent’s camp without getting any opportunity to score.
“The first group is going to repeat what Monaco did, to reproduce it tomorrow against the starters. On the second pitch, we will repeat different minor moments of the game. On the lower pitch, with the starters, we will try to solve the problems we encountered against Monaco. You understand? When it’s finished we will continue our discussion.”
Leeds fans could possibly claim that their gaffer was loosely responsible for a trio of Champions League wins, as he guided Zidane on his way to managerial success. Watch the full video down below.
