The chaotic and unprecedented events which occurred in the aftermath of Khabib’s victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 have dominated the sporting sphere since the weekend.
Khabib was widely criticised for jumping over the octagon at the T-Mobile Arena and attacking fellow fighter Dillon Danis, while members of his team were filmed brawling with the beaten McGregor in the cage.
It’s fair to say the scenes after the fight didn't paint the Russian in the best of lights, and now fresh footage from Anatomy of a Fighter shows exactly what happened when he returned to the dressing room.
The 4minute 55second video, posted to YouTube (see below), shows a cool, calm and collected Khabib preparing for the blockbuster bout in his dressing room, during which the UFC Lightweight Champion runs through his warm-up routine, as his coach Javier Mendez previews the fight, talking about how his athlete won the mental game, and how he has the slight advantage heading into the fight, which he believes will be a ‘war’.
Khabib is joined by fellow fighters Luke Rockhold (Middleweight) and the LHW & HW Champion Daniel Cormier, whose young son is seen playfully fighting with Khabib, while the fight referee Herb Dean is shown running through a few rules.
Then, around the 4m 17s mark, the video shows members of Khabib’s team reacting to their fighter’s rear-choke submission of his Irish foe, as they jump up in jubilation, before the victorious Khabib returns to the dressing room, where he yellows out:
"I told you guys he is a tap machine.
"He cannot fight five rounds!"
Then he instantly apologises to his coach Mendez for his actions in the immediate aftermath of the win.
"Sorry coach. This is not me, this is not me."
Khabib has since threatened to quit the UFC if his teammate Zubaira Tukhugov is banned, posting this on Instagram:
"If you decide to fire him (Tukhugov), you should know that you'll lose me too. We never give up on our brothers in Russia and I will go to the end for my Brother. If you still decide to fire him, don't forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I'll break it myself."
