When it rains it pours. A new year was supposed to herald the start of an upturn in fortunes for Real Madrid but the La Liga giants suffered another humbling defeat on Sunday and fans were swift to point the finger of blame at one man.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois can do little right in the eyes of many Real Madrid fans as he continues to be selected ahead of Keylor Navas, the three-time Champions League winner.
Fans took to Twitter to show their frustration as Real slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday night.
We all know Keylor Navas isn't the best goalkeeper in the world, but TBH IMO, he really did not need replacement at Real Madrid. The money spent on Courtois would have been properly utilized on a world class attacker(not Neymar). The lack of goal threat is now haunting them. [@PeterAlaks]

Since leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid in the summer, Courtois has endured a difficult time of it, conceding 27 goals in 21 games in all competitions and keeping just eight clean sheets.

Navas has played eight games in all formats this season and conceded eight goals, keeping three clean sheets.
It wasn't only Real Madrid fans who reacted to the result on Twitter as Chelsea supporters were revelling in the misery of Courtois, who left Stamford Bridge for the Bernabeu in controversial circumstances during the summer transfer window.
Some are suggesting it is karma for Real Madrid selling the misfiring forward Alvaro Morata to Chelsea a few years ago!
