Leicester City have won the race to sign Norwich star James Maddison for a fee of £22m plus add-ons. The 21-year-old, who was one of the standout players in the Championship last season, has chosen The Foxes over Southampton, who also had a bid accepted by Norwich.

Maddison chose Leicester in order to be closer to his family who live in Coventry, where the starlet made his name for his hometown club. Everton and Fulham were also chasing the England under-21’s signature, but Leicester’s location and offer of first-team football has proven too hard to turn down.

Maddison bagged 15 goals for Norwich last season, a stunning record for a number 10 performing in an average Championship side. Free-kicks are his speciality and his movement and ability to beat a man are top class. He will certainly make an impression on the Premier League next season and Leicester would be wise to build their side around this precocious young talent.

He has the quality and determination to play at the very highest level and although this World Cup has come too early for him, Maddison will be in the England squad before too long. Gareth Southgate will be keeping a close eye on him and Fulham’s youngster Ryan Sessegnon to see if they can make the step up in the Premier League.

With just a medical to be completed, Leicester have a prestigious talent on their hands and an attacking midfielder who will be a joy to watch in the Premier League.

Coventry will recieve 10% of the total fee after inserting a sell-on clause in his contract when he moved to Norwich. Find out more about Maddison here.
