Gareth Southgate’s England Soar In The Latest FIFA World Rankings Whilst Germany Plummet

After a memorable World Cup campaign, England are up to sixth in the FIFA World Rankings, their highest position since 2013. This comes as a result of the Three Lions reaching the World Cup semi-finals, their best performance at a major tournament since 1996, where they reached the same stage at the Euros.

Meanwhile, Germany, who had a nightmare of a tournament, finishing bottom of their group, have paid a heavy price, dropping from 1st to 15th! The 2014 World Champions lost to Mexico, before securing a last-ditch winner v Sweden to keep their tournament alive. However, they then shockingly lost 2-0 to South Korea to see them crash out of the tournament at the first hurdle and have now dropped to their lowest World Ranking in a decade.

The team at the top of the rankings are unsurprisingly World Champions France. Their incredible summer performance sees them hit the top of the leaderboard, above second-placed Belgium and third-placed Brazil.

Croatia’s impressive run to the World Cup final has seen them fly up the ranking to fourth, an incredible rise of 16 places. Uruguay are in fifth followed by aforementioned England and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal side. Lionel Messi’s Argentina are down in 11th whilst Chile, who didn’t even qualify for the World Cup are in 12th.

As for the other home nations, Wales drop one place to 19th, Northern Ireland jump up two to 27th and Ireland are 29th. Scotland are just above Montenegro in 40th position. The full table can be found here.

More good news and a reward for all of Gareth Southgate’s good work with this England team.
