Former Manchester United defender turned Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was named Mauricio Pochettino as the man he wants to be the club's new manager.
This morning, Jose Mourinho was sacked after a poor start to the season which has seen them fall miles behind the leading pack in the Premier League. It's a situation which has been made all the more painful for the United faithful as their two greatest rivals Manchester City and Liverpool lead the way.
Neville told Sky Sports News that he wants to see the Spurs boss Pochettino take over at Old Trafford though he appreciates that it's the worst possible timing for Daniel Levy with the club about to move into a new stadium.
"I have no idea who makes the decisions at the football club," said Neville. "So I don't know who was telling Mourinho that he couldn't sign certain players. I don't see anyone at the club who is qualified to make those decisions.
"The recruitment over the last seven years has been erratic. The current management team have had three chance to get his right with a manager. I said last season that the next manager of Manchester United should be Mauricio Pochettino. Not just because he did a good job at Tottenham but because of his belief in young players at Southampton and Tottenham and also the way he carries himself at all times.
"I have been fortunate to spend a few days at Tottenham's training ground and for me, he feels like the ideal candidate. United have tried managers who have won European Cups but we need someone who will meets the three key principals main beliefs of Manchester United. Promotion of youth, entertaining football and winning football matches. He has done the most incredible job at Tottenham and for me he is the outstanding candidate."
We would like to thank him for his work during his time at Manchester United and wish him success in the future. #MUFC
