The dust has barely settled on Manchester United’s fantastic win over PSG in the Champions League but former player and now top pundit Gary Neville has already turned his attention to the summer transfer window and how his former side can improve.
Whilst working for Bein Sports covering the game he said:
“Manchester United need two centre-backs. I genuinely believe that. When you talk about United winning the Premier League title or trying to get to a Champions League final, you need top centre backs.
"They need two new centre backs and a right back. That’s a minimum I think for the summer. They’ve looked at doing that in the past and they need to do it this year.
"The manager needs a new back four, there’s no doubt.
"They need someone with authority. You watch Virgil van Dijk or Thiago Silva, they’re world-class centre backs and United need someone like that."
Manchester United have been consistently linked with the signing of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, who could cost north of £90m if they are to land the Senegalese man. However, that could be a price worth paying if he takes them to the next level, as Van Dijk has done for Liverpool.
Neville continued: "I would say three defenders, one midfielder and one forward, because of the form of Alexis Sanchez. Unless he completely changes what he's doing, United need another forward.
"I’d say they need five additions to the squad. Then the squad would be in good shape and could challenge."
It seems that under Solskjaer this United team are invincible, although they will surely need reinforcements at some point, this summer with any luck. Solskjaer now looks certain to land the permanent job and with every win the confidence in him grows, meaning he could have a large pot of money to spend in the summer. Things are looking good for United fans.
