Hammd Miah will be hoping he can be one of the surprise packages at this week’s German Masters.

After beating Luca Brecel and Zhao Xintong in qualifying to reach the final stages of the event at The Tempodrom in Berlin, he’s got the taste for even more success now.

“I feel more comfortable on the tour now than I ever have and am starting to get better results, but I do feel as if I haven’t shown everyone what I can really do,” he told The Sportsman.

“I haven’t progressed as much as I would have liked and feel like I’ve underachieved so I’ve still got a long way to go.

“I’m feeling good about my game; it’s in good shape but snooker is the kind of game where you can feel great at one moment and then after one bad result it counts for nothing.”

Miah will face China’s Mei Xi Wen for a place in the last 16 and with it comes a chance to record his best ever performance at a ranking event.

Hammad said: “We’re two of the lower ranked players left in the tournament so it’s a great opportunity for both us to progress in a tournament.

“It’s exciting to be playing on the big stage; it’s what you play the game for.

“Everyone says how good The Tempodrom is – it’s one of the venues where the crowds are great.”

Miah’s immediate target for the rest of the season will be to confirm his place on next season’s tour. After reaching the final round of qualifying for The Crucible last season and enjoying further good runs this season, he is well placed to reach this target.

“The World Championship was massive for me last season,” explained Miah. “I’m determined to get some results in the upcoming events to give myself a bit of breathing space.

“No one wants to always be playing with the pressure of surviving on the tour. It’s nice to play more freely and to be able to enjoy it. A good run in Berlin would be a great start.”
