In an unusual move, the agent of Manchester United agent Jose Mourinho has issued a statement to say the Portugese is happy at Old Trafford.
Jorge Mendes stated: “There have been more rumours of Jose Mourinho leaving Manchester United. It’s totally untrue. José is very happy at the club and the club is very happy with him. He has a long-term contract with Manchester United and is fully committed to the club in building a solid winning project.”
Mourinho has endured a turbulent start to the season and his relationship with French international midfielder Paul Pogba has been the subject of much debate. There was also talk of Mourinho returning to Real Madrid when Zinedine Zidane resigned following the club's Champions League Final win over Liverpool.
The United boss signed a contract extension in January that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2020. He was frustrated in the summer when he was unable to land several of his top transfer targets, famously failing to land a new central defender when the likes of Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld were linked with the club.
Some reports this morning suggested that Manchester United were considering Mauricio Pochettino as a potential replacement for Mourinho, a move which would cost them millions in compensation. However this latest statement - essentially a vote of confidence for himself - confirms that Mourinho is content at Old Trafford.
Mourinho will be hoping for some transfer funds in January with some stories suggesting he will be allowed to sign three players next year.
