Harry Redknapp took to the airwaves on Wednesday to passionately defend his old club Tottenham Hotspur, who were called 'spineless' by Gary Neville following their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City on Monday night.
Neville unleashed a tirade towards the north London club that have failed to win notable silverware over the last few decades and duly called Tottenham Hotspur, "spineless and soft, flaky, rubbish."
However, Redknapp, who managed Spurs between 2008 and 2012, elected to voice his disappointment at Neville's comments on Alan Brazil's Sports Breakfast on TalkSPORT, and fervently protected his former club's name.
Responding to Neville's comments, Redknapp said: "Gary's comments I thought were an absolute disgrace! I can only speak about the three-and-a-half-years I managed the club, but you've got players in that team, it's a disgrace to label people in that team like Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Ledley King, Rafa van der Vaart, William Gallas, it's a disgrace to talk about players saying they're spineless, gutless." "I was so disappointed, so upset with his comments. I think he needs to do his homework before coming out with comments like that, he was totally out of order!" added a raging Redknapp.
Reflecting on his time at Spurs boss, Redknapp picked out some of the matches where his side delivered on the big stage. Redknapp said: "We played Arsenal, we had great games, we won at the Emirates, we beat them at home. "We've gone to Liverpool, I think we almost beat them every time we played them over that period"
A fuming Redknapp concluded: "To label that [spineless] against top, top players, his opinion, in this case, is totally wrong, totally out of order and I think it's a disgrace to talk as he has without looking and seeing what that team did there. I've got the raving hump with him, I wouldn't want to speak with him," ended Redknapp.
