''He's So Dodgy'' - Nervous Liverpool Fans Slam Error Prone Defender For Everton Display

'He's Back To His Worst Again'
"He's Back To His Worst Again"

The tension was building at Goodison Park as Sunday's Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool ended 0-0 and it was all getting a bit too much for a few fans of the team from the red side of Merseyside as they started criticising one of their own.

Supporters of the Premier League title-chasers took to Twitter to express their disappointment in the efforts of Joel Matip, who has come in for plenty of criticism for his displays of late.

The Liverpool defender, playing alongside the immense Virgil van Dijk, only returned from injury last month but there has been no time for him to ease his way back to form and fitness.

Liverpool fans were left distinctly unimpressed by his first-half efforts...

Liverpool have announced that Virgil Van Dijk receives two salaries; his own, and another for having to coach the woeful Joel Matip through each match. [@urbanGriller]

The big issue was Matip's propensity for trying to carry the ball from defence into midfield, often without success.

Matip runs all the way through the midfield only for us to lose the ball. Again. [@ItsMeSou]

Matip goes on some absolute wild adventures like [@FourFourOnGlue]

The 27-year-old rarely looked confident in possession...

Matip back to he's worst again, he always seem under pressure even when he's not #LFC #EVELIV [@Capetownlboy]

While it seemed like he could do very little right in the eyes of many!

Matip is so dodgy [@Mikey87103043]

Liverpool fans were understandably on edge as they continue to battle for the Premier League title...

Can't help but think that one of Matip's marauding runs is going to cost Liverpool. You're a centre-back, Joel! [@ParthAthale]

And there were some dodgy stats coming out...

There was a stat in @KuperSimon's excellent piece on Barcelona's Innovation Hub that, on average, a player has the ball for two minutes a game. Joel Matip has been in possession for at least 25 minutes this half. [@RorySmith]

Things can only get better for a player who has been accused of hoofing it too much and carrying the ball for too long!
