''He Should Retire'' - Manchester United Fans Explode At Defender As Poor Form Continues Against Southampton

The atmosphere at Manchester United has been a positive one in recent weeks following the arrival of OIe Gunnar Solskjaer with win after win in the Premier League, but there are still some major holes in the playing staff.

Ashley Young has been a mainstay of the Man United squad and has done an admirable job filling in at right back in recent months but the fans are starting to lose patience with the former Aston Villa man.

The 33-year-old has recently signed a contract extension at the club which will see him stay at Old Trafford for one more year but he was at fault again this afternoon in the buildup to the opening Southampton goal and it is fair to say that the fans are starting to lose faith.

Going 1-0 down at home to he relegation threatened south coast club was always going to cause uproar on social media and it was Young who was the target for dozens of fans who couldn't wait to make their opinions heard...

Ashley Young pathetic throw in leads to the goal - (@jasaujla89)

Not blaming him for the goal but Ashley Young is such a liability it's horrible. There was no need to take that throw-in so quickly and he just chucked it at Andreas who had 2 Southampton players on him. C for Captain? I say clown. - (@UnitedJord)

I long for the day Ashley Young doesn’t play for our club. - (@NathaanMason)

Solskjaer has changed the mood at Old Trafford over the past couple of months but with players like Young still on the pitch there is no doubt that the Norwegian still has plenty of work to do, if he is indeed the man to take the club back to the pinnacle of the Premier League.

Young has clearly been an excellent servant for the team but surely his best days are behind him and a new full-back in the summer transfer window must now be the highest priority.
