Henry Cejudo Causes An Almighty Upset By Defeating Demetrious Johnson At UFC 227

The Staples Center in Los Angeles was the scene of an almighty upset on Saturday night as Henry Cejudo produced a stunning performance to defeat Demetrious Johnson at UFC 227 - you can see the best of the action in the video that follows our report.

Johnson, the UFC flyweight champion, was unbeaten in twelve previous title defences and was gearing up for a second clash with Cejudo after he had previously defeated him with a technical knockout at UFC 197 in Las Vegas in 2016.

However, Cejudo recovered from that defeat to go on a sensational run of winning form and earned another crack at Johnson - albeit bookmakers gave the diminutive 31-year-old little chance to turn the tables on his opponent at UFC 227.

It was clear from the outset that Cejudo was out to upset the odds as he is a different beast to the man who was beaten by Johnson more than two years ago. The men exchanged fire at a rapid rate, with the pair evenly matched for much of what was an epic contest.

The bout was in the balance going into the final round and the two fighters continued to dazzle the crowd, who were on their feet and applauding wildly when the fight ended.

A nervous wait for the scorecards adjudged Cejudo as the winner via a split decision (scores of 48-47, 47-48, 48-47) and the man from California was emotional as he realised what he had achieved, while the magnanimous Johnson generously applauded his opponent. Cejudo was left dumbstruck, as you can see from his reaction in the video below:
