There is a long and glorious relationship between footballers and the music industry. Rapping, singing and song-writing go hand-in-hand with the lifestyle of a footballer (apparently). Forget the goals, the assists, the trophies and famous victories, it is the 'Anfield Rap' that will no doubt be the highlight of John Barnes' Liverpool career. And now it is Kevin-Prince Boateng who is bidding to write himself into folklore with the latest football-music crossover.
The former Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and AC Milan midfielder is currently plying his trade with Sassuolo in Serie A after joining from the Bundesliga's Eintracht Frankfurt over the summer, although he has found time to release a quite majestic rap video - scroll down to see the song video in all of its dubious glory.
Boateng is perhaps attempting to following in the footsteps of his half-brother, Jerome, who infamously released a comedy song earlier this summer. The Bayern Munich defender joined forces with British comedian, Jack Whitehall, to produce an unofficial German World Cup tune called 'Mannschaft', during which he proclaimed, "in 2018 we’re about to win another cup.” That didn't quite work out to plan as Germany were knocked out of the World Cup in the group stages.
Kevin-Prince Boateng will be hoping that his own song is a little more successful and his rap starts with the lyrics, "Bro, turn up the volume". Solid start.
"I live my life like a king, living with no pressure, hustling like I don't know better". As lyrics go it is fair to say that he is no John Lennon.
Still, find out for yourself if it gets any better by watching the video below - WARNING: It features Kevin-Prince flouncing around in a swimming pool, alongside some posh sports cars and on top of pool tables. Magnificent.
