Last night’s tip, Velvet Vision, came home with her head in front at Newcastle despite showing signs of greenness under a fine ride from Paul Mulrennan. With that under our belts we’re keen to continue the week on a good track and dig out another winner today.
The presence of the Lincoln on the horizon is tantalizing for flat fans and it’s the time of year that talented 3-year-olds start to appear more and more.
We believe we’ve found one running on the all-weather at Kempton tonight that might be seen in better company sooner rather than later.
Mandalayan goes for Jonathan Portman in the 18:15 there tonight and we’re keen to have this son of Arakan on our side.
He put in a hugely pleasing display second time out at Lingfield on his last start, quickening smartly up the straight to put his race to bed with a minimum of fuss.
Consequentially he’ll be carrying more weight than most of these, including Dark Crocodile, who was one place behind him last time off level weights. That shouldn’t prove too problematic as he had bags in hand over that rival that day.
West Wing, a newcomer from John Gosden’s, is another that’s short in the market and will get weight from the selection. He knows how to send out a debutant to win but this one will have to be of a high calibre to best Mandalayan first time out.
At odds of 9/4, we’re happy to get involved with a decent-sized interest in the hope that our fancy can make it two on the spin.
