Horse Racing Tip: Tuesday 1st May

Horse Racing Tip: Tuesday 1st May
11:11, 01 May 2018

The weather finally looks to be picking up and there’s been some glorious scenes out on the gallops this morning for trainers and riders. There’s six meetings in total today with the only Jumps meeting coming from over in Ireland at Ballinrobe whilst there are flat turf meetings from Brighton Yarmouth and Nottingham with Newcastle and Kempton both hosting evening meetings on the All-Weather surfaces.

It was a rather disappointing start to the week with yesterday’s selection Past Master. He became restless going down to the start and never looked settled when in the gates. As a result his price drifted sharply before the off and that showed in his performance, finishing sixth behind the winner Chance To Dream. My selection today comes from East Anglia where I’m fancying Michael Appleby’s RAMBLOW (10/3) to claim the 16:15 fillies handicap over seven furlongs.

After a rather underwhelming 2017 things have really picked up for this 5-year-old mare who has managed two wins in her last three starts after previously failing to be first past the post on her twelve starts. She was last seen when finishing 2nd at Wolverhampton just over a month ago in a class 5 handicap over a mile. She went down by three quarters of a length to the fast finishing Zafaranah and I’m confident that she can make up for that defeat this afternoon at Yarmouth.

Prior to that run she came off the back of two wins, the first coming at Wolverhampton when sent off at a huge 25/1 she made all under Nicola Currie to land the spoils off a mark of 54. She was then notched up 6lbs for that victory and went on to make it back to back wins at Lingfield just a week later again under an excellent ride from Currie. Incidentally it was Josephine Gordon who rode this mare last time out and having Nicola Currie back in the saddle today can only be a good thing for me. She takes off 5lb and with Ramblow already being 3lb lower than her last run due to he switch to turf she could be really well handicapped for this afternoon’s contest.

During 2017 this mare was contesting races over 1m4f and I really feel she has now found her preferred trip with the seven and eight furlong races she has won this year. The main danger in this race looks to come from Silvestre De Sousa’s mount, The Lacemaker. But with many of these unproven on the surface and with Ramblow having such a generous mark of 59 I’m going to advise a 1pt win at the current price of 10/3.

16:15 Yarmouth - 7f Handicap - Class 5 - Ramblow 10/3 - 1pt Win
