After the heady days of last week’s Cheltenham Festival we’re back to basics this Monday and we’ve sized up the all-weather card at Lingfield.
It’s the first race, the 14:20, that we’ve zeroed in on and found a runner worth following.
The market for the race has been shaped around World of Good. Olly Murphy has shown his ability to work the oracle with new recruits to his yard time and again this term and his work with this son of Danehill Dancer has been no different.
He sent him out to end an near year-long barren spell under Luke Morris last time and he's sure to go well again.
Having been an odds-on shot for a time, however, he’s been drifting like a barge this morning, as the second Fav has been backed, and it’s Caledonia Laird that we want to be with.
He returned from a decent break over a mile at Wolverhampton last time to put in a pleasing display and finish third. That should leave him sharper today ahead of his drop back in trip.
He’s been dropped a pound for that - which strikes as a fairly charitable act from the handicapper - and he can go close with capable apprentice Harry Burns aboard.
Most of his best career performances have come at the venue and the return here is another plus.
He’ll strip fitter for this one, he’s well handicapped and has been well-supported. We’ll get involved with a small, win-only investment in the hopes of getting the week off to a strong start.
