Trainer Archie Watson has described his Lingfield course specialist Attain as a ‘standing dish’ at the course and we’re keen to have a sample of him this afternoon in the opening race on the card at 14:00.
The venerable old 9-year-old has won three times on the course this year, including twice last month off marks of 62 and 65. The son of Dansili races off only three pounds higher today and can be forgiven his sixth here on his last run.
There was a lack of pace on offer that time, and regular pilot Pierre-Louis Jamin had to do the needful himself and take up the running. That didn’t suit Attain but he still managed to stay in contention until the last knockings, only being passed by a few that had things there own way throughout late on.
Things should be run to suit a little more today, with Golden Nectar and Paddy A among plenty that like to get things going on the front end.
That should leave a nice perch just off the pace for the selection and they’ll have to be fairly good to beat him on his patch with conditions to suit.
Morning odds of 6/1 seem a wild overreaction to his defeat last time and, with 8 in the field and assuming there are no non-runners, he makes a lovely each-way betting proposition.
We’ll take a two-point each-way investment and hope that Attain can earn us a crust this lunchtime in Surrey.
