On a balmy afternoon such as this one there’s few better places to be in the country than Brighton and it’s worth getting yourself down to the course if you’re in the south of England.
It’s from the coastal venue that our tip for today comes in a busy little handicap at 16:40. An eight-runner field leaves this as an attractive heat to search for an each-way play in and that’s just what we’ve done.
Deliberator goes for William night on his first start on turf off the back of a break. The four-year-old son of Delegator had a string of reasonable efforts to his name over the winter that ended when he finished a poor sixth of eight at Cheltenham in February.
He was raced well off the pace that day, though, which doesn’t show him in his best light and can perhaps be forgiven.
He lines up in a field today in which he’s the only recognised prominent racer and, unless one of the other jocks decides to try something new with their mount, he should get a scarcely contested lead on the front end.
Luke Morris is aboard and he’s tucked in stall 1, another thing that can help him get into a nice position on the rail early.
At a meaty 22/1, he looks a good bit overpriced and well worth an each-way poke in the hopes that he can hold off the late chargers of the other runners.
Keep an eye on those non-runners though, if there’s a withdrawal between now and then it’s worth reevaluating things.
