Brazilian jock Silvestre De Sousa has been in fine form of late on the decent ground of the tracks of England and can have another good day at the office at Yarmouth this evening.
He takes the ride on Sean O’Casey in the 15:25 on the card down on the coast, the Racing Welfare Handicap, and this one looks to have a live chance.
The 5-year-old son of Galileo has been performing unremarkably in handicap company so far this term but has slipped down in the weights and, in this less-than-warm company, can take advantage.
Michael Appleby’s gelding’s only win came a year ago on this course off a mark of 75 and he returns to the course for the first time on 69.
De Sousa was the man that guided him home in a fine front-running display that time and, with the ground on the firm side of good there today, conditions are set for a similar pacesetting performance. He’ll be hard to peg back if he gets into a nice rhythm on the front end.
The step up in trip to an extended 1m3f trip can eek a bit more out of this one, with the style of that win at this course that of a horse with plenty of running left when passing the line.
There’s been a few quid for him already this morning and he’s into 15/8, but is worth supporting down to that mark with a bright showing on the cards. He can keep the Epsom pot ticking over for a bit longer.
