How Long Until Rocket Ronnie Racks Up A Thousand Pro Centuries?

Ronnie O’Sullivan may be into his 40s, but he is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to playing snooker at the highest level.

His 6-2 victory against Anthony Hamilton not only booked his place in this year’s Champion of Champions final but also saw him reach a landmark 900 professional century breaks.

The Rocket – widely regarded as the greatest player to ever pick up a cue – has never been the kind of player to worry himself unduly about chasing the record books. Instead, he has played the game down the years with a philosophy that if he concentrates on playing well, results, titles and milestones will naturally come with it.

Despite this, he has never hidden his ambition of reaching 1,000 professional century breaks. Now more than 100 clear of Stephen Hendry when it comes to compiling tons, this is a special accomplishment he is quickly motoring towards.

Right now, The Rocket is in a rich vein of form as the recently crowned English Open champion and his next piece of silverware potentially only a couple of days away. If he continues to operate at the levels he has been playing in recent tournaments, it’s only a matter of time until hits the big four figures.

For O’Sullivan’s most ardent fans, his desire to keep knocking in big breaks is a sure guarantee that he will continue to play the game to a level which will keep him competing for the sport’s biggest titles for at least a couple of seasons longer.

Watching O’Sullivan compile a century break on the old green baize is one of those great sights in the world of sport. His pinpoint cue ball control makes for mesmerising viewing and in full flow he is simply a joy to watch.

His break-building prowess has become his trademark quality down the years, but only one facet of his wonderfully rounded game which includes a smart safety game, unrivalled quick-thinking and an ability to bully his opponents to a pulp on the table.

There’s no saying how much longer Ronnie will continue to play the game but while he’s on the hunt for the 1,000th century it’s important that we sit back  and enjoy this fine player in action.
