WWE’s annual harccore throwdown Extreme Rules takes place this weekend. The yearly event sees WWE superstars clash in all manner of stipulation matches, with some feuds ending and others reaching another level at the show.

Six matches have been announced thus far for the show, which has its roots in Extreme Championship Wrestling’s lawless 1990s heyday. WWE are staging a varied card with almost every sort of combat imaginable. Here’s a rundown of the announced bouts and how to watch them.

Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

When: Saturday 8th October, 2022

Channel: WWE Network or BT Sport Box Office

Start Time: Pre-Show: 12am Main Show: 1am (UK time)

Card:

Liv Morgan (c) vs. Ronda Rousey: Extreme Rules match for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship

Former UFC star Rousey looks to make it third time lucky against champion Morgan. After losing the title to Liv at Money In The Bank, Rousey was controversially pinned by her rival at SummerSlam. Now, with no holds barred, ‘The Baddest Woman on the Planet” attempts to take back what she sees as rightfully hers.

Matt Riddle vs. Seth "Freakin" Rollins Fight Pit match

WWE’s version of the Octagon will be lent some serious authenticity as former UFC champion Daniel Cormier will serve as special guest referee. Riddle himself is no stranger to the world of MMA, boasting a 7-3-2 record with the UFC. Rollins won their first major PPV encounter last month at Clash At The Castle in a superb technical match.

Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross: Strap match

Kross got involved in McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship shot in Cardiff last month. Now ‘The Scottish Warrior’ will get his chance to exact revenge in a wonderfully old school stipulation bout. The two men will be strapped together at the wrists, meaning there will be no escape in what is sure to be one of the night’s most brutal clashes.

Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley: Ladder match for the WWE Raw Women's Championship

Another long-time WWE staple, the ladder match will serve as the battleground for the latest chapter of the Belair-Bayley feud. Damage CTRL, Bayley’s faction featuring IYO SKY and Dakota Kai, have played a major role in the conflict thus far. Don’t be surprised to see the group have a decisive impact on the outcome here.

Edge vs. Finn Bálor:  "I Quit" match

This battle pits the former leader of Judgment Day against the current figurehead. The crux of the conflict here is the group’s corruption of Edge’s friend and Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik Mysterio. The younger Mysterio turned on Edge and Rey at Clash At The Castle and sided with the gothic-influenced stable. Now ‘The Rated R Superstar’ seeks revenge for that slight in an I Quit match, where the object is to beat your opponent to the point they give up and say those words.

The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland, and Butch) vs.Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci): Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook match

Silly match name, serious business. If recent clashes between these teams are anything to go by then this will be the hardest-hitting match on the show. Sheamus and Gunther put on WWE’s best match of 2022 last month and the addition of their partners adds another level of intrigue to this one. A Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook means weapons and weapons in the hands of these six men means we’re in for a memorable night.
