Currently tearing through the Caribbean and showing no signs of subsiding, the 185mph winds of Hurricane Irma are due to hit mainland Miami by Sunday. Not wanting to get trapped by the storm Campbell has made the tough decision to relocate his training to California.
Campbell has spent the last two months in Miami preparing for his WBA Lightweight challenge. Having won bantamweight gold at the 2012 Olympics in London, Campbell is looking to become the only the third Briton, following James DeGale and Anthony Joshua, to win both an Olympic gold and and world title.
Now in the final part of his preparation, Campbell, is taking a risk moving camps. Although avoiding the potential disruption of Irma, leaving at this point is the lesser of two evils.
Fighting for the WBA Lightweight championship Campbell will be facing Venezuelan Jorge Linares. A four-time world champion world champion across three weight classes, Linares will be a tough challenge for the talented Campbell. In his last match Linares dispatched Anthony Crolla with skill and poise.
Having fought all over the world Linares has proven himself as a fan favorite. With titles at three weights the Venezuelan has built himself a solid reputation. Known for his ability to control fights with his masterful defence, Linares is able to deliver solid powerful punches at lightning speed.
With Linares looking to make a name for himself in America he is not taking the bout lightly. Since moving to London, Linares, has been training under Ismael Salas. Along with the wealth of experience Salas offers, Linares has been working alongside heavyweight David Haye to improve upon his already menacing power.
Campbell has taken five victories since being defeated by Yvan Mendy in 2015. Looking forward to 23rd September Campbell needs to play to his strengths if he is to cause an upset. His ability to use both hands equally well and potentially the most technical skill of any fighter in the division he will need to dig deep to take the victory.
Hopefully, this unscheduled relocation will have little hindrance on the fight. With both Campbell and Linares top of their game and looking to progress in their careers, it should be an an action-packed fight. Campbell needs to show some of what won him gold in London if he is to walk away victorious against a dangerous opponent.
