What a time to be a Liverpool fan. Merseyside Reds everywhere are enjoying sniffing the strong pungent of their closest Premier League challenge in years, with the bookmakers making them odds-on favourites (8/11 – Betfred) to lift their first English league title in almost 30 years.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has got pretty much got everyone who congregates at Anfield or proudly wear the Liver bird on their chest around the world smiling.
Klopp’s side currently sit pretty at the top of the EPL table, six points clear of their nearest rivals after a 4-0 routine demolition of Newcastle United, whilst Manchester City slipped up yet again.
However, one particular member of the Liverpool contingent isn’t as enamoured with the German coach, who is on the verge of bringing glory back to the red half of Merseyside after an agonisingly long wait.
Alberto Moreno has been the man left out in the cold and in a recent interview with Cadena Ser (via Football Espana), the Spanish defender expressed his disappointment with his manager;
"The situation is normal for a lot of players but simply I did not like the way he (Klopp) has treated me, you can say that. Moving back to Spain is something I have thought about, I am tired of the cold here but I do not know about interests from other clubs.
"I am in my fifth year here, there is no agreement on a renewal, and in January I am free to listen to any offer."
Not that Moreno’s comments will matter to any Liverpool fan right now.
Formerly a figure of scorn due to some extremely erratic performances that verged on the point of parody, the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and £8million purchase Andrew Robertson as extremely impressive full-backs has limited Moreno to just two Premier League appearances this season and consequently to wallow in his own displeasure.
Moreno has made 140 appearances for Liverpool since moving from Sevilla in 2014.
With his comments about Klopp well against the grain, and the player's contract expiring at the end of the season they’ll not be many a Red who’ll be in a rush to sign Moreno’s leaving card.
