It is finally here. After months of waiting and those dark winter months wishing for this great competition to return, it is back! That’s right, Love Island has come careering onto our screens once again and as the drama unfolds on ITV2 we begin to learn more about each contestant and their traits.
But which contestant best matches up to a current Premier League team?
Jack - Burnley
Ah Jack. The man with teeth as bright as Sean Dyche’s future, this man, like Burnley is on the up. He may not have the six pack of the other contenders, but like the Clarets, he makes do with what he's got and is performing way above expectations. Great work.
Dani - Huddersfield Town
Dani crashed into the villa and also into the nation’s hearts as her personality set her apart from the other girls. Much like David Wagner on the touchline her antics and infectious personality bring entertainment to us watching on and the underdog story is one we can all get behind.
Niall - Newcastle United
He has been waiting for the good times to come back after a difficult spell at the start of the competition. He seemed to have settled down in the villa, has many fans and is popular amongst his other competitors, but he didn't have that ruthless winning mentality to see him through to the finish. A clear early favourite with the public but just like Newcastle have been known to blow big leads, Niall shockingly left the villa on Tuesday like the Toon Army wish Mike Ashley would leave their club.
Georgia - Wolves
She may have arrived late into the villa but like Wolves’ arrival in the Premier League, she is looking to make a big impact. She has the potential to blow all her other competitors away and go deep into the competition but a lot will depend on her recruitment this summer. A brilliant addition to the villa.
Wes - Manchester City
Gets the blame for a lot of things that go wrong in the villa when essentially he has done nothing wrong. A big spender who once spent £1,000 on a first date, money is no issue for this guy - as long as success comes at the end of it. Now flexing his muscles at the top end of the contestants, Wes, like Man City, will be tough to beat come the end of the competition.
Laura - Manchester United
A lady who certainly has potential but at 29, she will never recreate her glory days from previous years. She does not look out of place in the villa and entertains in patches, rather like Manchester United in the top flight. Will she be able to win anything of significance in the near future? Probably not.
Adam - Chelsea
Adam is as fickle as Chelsea’s fan base and changes girl like the Stamford Bridge club change managers. He has the chiselled looks and arrogance to woo the ladies and intimidate the men but with nothing substantial personality-wise, he seems as fake as the Made in Chelsea cast. The most dislikable bloke in the villa and the most dislikable club in the Premier League. A match made in heaven.
Rosie - West Ham
She’s only been in a couple of days yet there is definitely something to dislike about her, like there is about West Ham. She may have a decent sized fanbase watching on but they are likely to kick off at any given moment. She’s come in late and paired up with the biggest name she could, like the Hammers and Manuel Pellegrini, but this will end in tears.
Eyal - Bournemouth
Eyal is fairly inoffensive and likeable to most people watching on at home and like Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, he believes he is a deep thinker. He is looking for someone to connect with but despite his good intentions and ‘good boy image’ he can be a bit dull, just like Bournemouth.
Hayley - Cardiff City
No-one wants Hayley in the Love Island villa just like no-one wants Cardiff in the Premier League. She makes Neil Warnock look like a pleasant bloke and is as untrustworthy and flimsy as Vincent Tan. Get out.
Alex - Fulham
The resident nice guy of the villa has made a good impression on his housemates without making any progress in the love department. Just like Fulham in the Premier League, he is often accused of lacking bite and that could prove to be his downfall. A nice addition to the villa and always entertaining, but can he gain the results to keep him in contention?
Samira - Watford
Meh. Honestly, nobody cares if she is in the villa or not, just like nobody cares if Watford are in or out of the Premier League. Like the Hornets, she must improve in several departments if she is going to keep her place.
Charlie - Tottenham Hotspur
It’s hard to know what to make of these next three, all newbies but an episode was enough for us to make a judgement at face value. Charlie seems decent up top and seems to be Samira's type on paper. They've been in talks for a while but like Spurs, he's failed to secure any silverware, will this count against him when we get into the business end of the competition?
Josh - Liverpool
Looks good and entertained the viewers during his first episode just like Liverpool, but winning trophies is the aim and The Reds are on a long drought, without a trophy. Josh will be hoping that he can find his type on paper and unlike Jurgen Klopp, win a final.
Megan - Arsenal
Both Megan and Arsenal are undergoing a real period of change in their life as the Gunners prepare for life after Arsene Wenger and Megan enters the villa looking for love. Just like Arsenal she is easy on the eye but it could prove difficult for the fans to warm to her.
