Imagine Winning £8k Off £20 Quid... The One Punter Who Dared To Dream

If Burton’s misery could have been summed up in one clip on Wednesday evening some shots of their beleaguered goalkeeper Bradley Collins time-wasting in the dying embers of the match to try and keep the score down to 9-0 would probably do the trick.

There will perhaps have only been one other person on the planet who wanted a rampant Manchester City fail to get into double figures quite as much as the Brewer’s sorry ‘stopper.

One Skybet punter had remarkable selected a correct score of 9-0, along with Kevin De Bruyne opening the scoring, as his bet for the evening, which saw him stand to win over £8k from a £21.80 stake if neither side managed to score any further goals after Riyad Mahrez’s 83rd minute strike.

They didn’t, of course, and the punter scooped the pot. A 375/1 shot - not bad for a Wednesday night’s work!

Clough was fairly sanguine about the result which was, he said, “not pleasant for us at times.” The Brewers boss was set to share a glass of wine with his opposite number after the game.

There might not be any relief for Clough and his Burton side in the return leg, though, as Manchester City will give seeing themselves into the final of the League Cup the due care and attention it deserves.

“The result was good and of course we are already in the final but we have to play the second leg," said Guardiola.

“We will take it seriously.”

Well, here at The Sportsman, we have tracked down that punter and his name is Phil Hampson, and we asked him about his monumental bet in an insightful interview.

Hampson talks about his ideas behind putting on the sensational bet and also discusses what he plans to spend the money on.
