Jesse Lingard has set his sights on scoring more goals for Manchester United, after finding the net four times in his last five Premier League appearances.
The 25-year-old bagged the winning goal against West Brom at the weekend, as United won 2-1 with Romelu Lukaku also on the scoresheet.
The England international has credited his positional change from a winger to playing more central for his surge of goals.
Lingard also noted the strong understanding he has formed with Lukaku in attacking positions following his switch to the centre.
“Obviously playing further forward you are going to get more goals and create chances also, so to play there with Romelu means we are getting that understanding now and chipping in with goals together,” he told reporters after United’s victory against the Baggies.
“I played there when I was younger and, when I got into the Reserves side, I played more on the left or the right for my development, but eventually moved inside again.
“I think playing centrally you get on the ball a lot more and you can make things happen more and you can obviously play closer to the main striker and feed off him.
“I'm hungry for more goals and any way I can help the team - assists, goals - and to win the game is the most important thing.”
Lingard’s rise from a youngster in United’s academy to a valuable first-team player is an example for many to follow, and he spoke of his role in helping his younger teammates at Old Trafford.
“Obviously, I look after the other ones – Scott [McTominay], Axel [Tuanzebe], Rash [Marcus Rashford]. I have just got to keep working hard on the training pitch,” he added.
“I think you have got to help them. I think it's always hard for a young lad coming through. For the likes of Scott who has done well when he has come in, Axel also, it's just keep working hard in training and it will eventually pay off.”
The attacking midfielder is approaching a busy period with United as they have a number of fixtures in quick succession ahead of Christmas and New Year.
Next up for the Reds is a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Bristol City at Ashton Gate before a trip to Leicester and a Boxing Day clash at home to Burnley in the Premier League.
