Ipswich Captain Luke Chambers Slams Norwich After Intense Derby Day Draw

Passionate Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers has come out on the attack after an intense 1-1 draw with rivals Norwich City in the East Anglian Derby. The Tractor Boys thought they had grabbed their first win over their bitter rivals since 2009 when Chambers scored in the 89th minute, but they were denied by a 95th minute Timm Klose equaliser for the hosts.

“I don’t think they are a threat, really, they had a lot possession, a lot of tippy tappy stuff but they’re not the team they were three years ago when we played them. They are nowhere near that level, hence the league position.

“If you are 1-0 up in the 89th minute then you have to see it out, really. We’re disappointed but we move on and our aim now is to finish above them.”

The Suffolk sides skipper continued his criticism with a wild claim about Norwich’s finances and their celebrations: “They are running around like they’ve won the cup in the 95th minute when they’ve spent £200m in the last five years. That just shows you the state of affairs at the moment.”

The draw leaves things unchanged in the table, with Ipswich above Norwich on goal difference, with both clubs eight points off the play-offs. Next up for the Canaries is a visit to table-topping Wolves whilst Ipswich face promotion-chasing Cardiff at Portman Road.

A play-off push looks unlikely for both sides with them lying in 12th and 13th place respectively, which made yesterday’s derby draw even more frustrating for Ipswich. It could have been Mick McCarthy’s last East Anglian derby as his contract runs out at the end of the season and he is still yet to win one.
