Probably not, no.
But we’re all entitled to our opinions and BBC Pundit Chris Sutton has boldly put his own one forward when asked by his employer who he feels should be in the running for the bronze medal position behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the title of the world’s best.
"It may not be fashionable to mention a defender when you have a conversation like this, but when you look at the difference Virgil van Dijk has made to Liverpool then you can see just how good he is.
"There is not an attribute you need as a defender that he does not have - he is quick, strong, consistent and he does not seem to lose his concentration.
"He also has tremendous distribution when he is on the ball, and he reads the game so well. He has got the lot.
"There will be a clamour for Eden Hazard and other attacking players - and I understand that - but Van Dijk has shown the difference a brilliant defender can make to any side."
That’s perhaps not as outrageous as it initially sounds once it’s explained by the ex-Celtic striker, but no doubt his twitter mentions will be an ‘18s and over’ zone for the next couple of days.
Sutton was asked the question as part of the promo for a public poll on the question which the broadcaster are running with Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe being two other names put forward by his fellow beeb footballing boffins.
