Manchester United have been crowned champions of European three times, yet one pundit has remarkably claimed that the club’s 2-1 victory against Juventus on Wednesday night could have been the greatest in their success-drenched history.
“Is this Manchester United’s best ever result in Europe?,” BT Sport pundit Martin Keown chirped dramatically towards the end of the game, leaving viewers staggered at what they’d just heard.
While it was arguably the most important win of Jose Mourinho’s tenure, and perhaps the best Champions League performance since the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, it’s ridiculous to think that it’s up there with the greatest European nights in the club’s history.
It’s not even United’s best ever European night in Turin - the stunning 3-2 comeback in 1999 anyone? - while a game later Fergie’s men conjured up one of the most stupendous comebacks ever, when they stunned Bayern Munich in injury time to snatch the Champions League trophy.
Man Utd first lifted the European Cup in the 1960s with a win over Benfica, then there’s the eye-popping 7-1 hammering of Roma, and so on. You get the picture.
It goes without saying that the Twitter community was quick to react to Keown’s comment, so here is a selection of the best tweets:

It wouldn't even be their best result in Turin 😂
Is Martin Keown on acid?
Presume he missed the 98/99 season 🤦🏻♂️ #JUVMUN
