There have been some pretty shambolic sporting debuts over the years. Jonathan Woodgate at Real Madrid instantly springs to mind, then there’s the infamous Ali Dia at Southampton, and Graham Gooch for the England cricket team.
Over in the boxing sphere, the unfortunate Emanuel Williams has been dubbed the “worst professional boxer in the world” after he was knocked out 84 seconds into his professional debut.
Lightweight Williams was floored by a body shot from fellow debutant John Rincon half-way through the opening round, a blow he was unable to recover from as he endured a disastrous debut to forget.
The 84 seconds prior to fight-ending punch were equally as disastrous, as a bewildered and completely-out-of-his-depth Williams awkwardly danced and pranced around the ring, much to the shock of the crowd, and those watching live on ESPN.
Williams was alarmingly void of technique, know-how, or a defence of any sort as Rincon found the target with ease, before a crunching shot to the mid-section brought the bout to a swift end.
Worst still, as Williams lay on the floor in agony, his corner man - who sported a two-piece suit - turned his back on the fighter.
As you’d expect Twitter was brutal in its assessment of Williams...

Emanuel Williams! Only had one corner man and he had on a two piece Dickie suit! Didn’t even jump in the ring after his fighter was KOd. He let his fighter rolling around hurt. I thought it was a April fools day in November. [@Bl8knstuff]
