“It Is Because They Deserve It” - How Manchester City Star Would Respond To Liverpool Winning The Premier League

Ladies and gentlemen, who have a genuine title race on our hands. Liverpool and Manchester City are set to go neck and neck, down to the wire, all the way to the end of the season.

Manchester City are hopeful of winning their first back-to-back titles in their history, whereas the Reds are looking to end almost three decades worth of hurt.

Both sides have so far been in scintillating form, lighting up the English top tier but Pep Guardiola and City know that - with the sides having played each other twice - Liverpool’s four-point advantage and 15 games left of the season means that the ultimate destination of the Premier League currently remains firmly in the Merseyside club’s hands.

City could win all their remaining fixtures of the season, finish with 101 points, and still finish second. By gaining maximum points, Liverpool would be on course for 105.

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has now come out to reveal how he would take the ignominy of Liverpool taking the title despite the potential for their own massive (record-breaking) haul;

“Then you would just have to take it as it is and say, ‘We had a good season, but someone was better’ and congratulate them,” he said. “We try to do the best as possible, but in the end if Liverpool get more points it is because they deserve it.

“Obviously you always want to win it, but if you get a season where you’re runners-up with 90 points, there’s not a lot you can say afterwards.

“There’s always luck involved. If you want to win something, you need luck, you need good form, everybody needs to be on it. It’s a consequence of everything.” (The Mirror)

Liverpool could potentially break City’s record 2017/18 tally of 100 points, and most wins within a season (32). Liverpool are currently on 19 wins out of 23 games for the season.

Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture is at home to Leicester City on Wednesday 30th January. City meanwhile will travel to Newcastle United the day before.
