''It Wasn't A Red Card Because It's Michael Owen'' - Crazy Scenes As Liverpool Legends Start Angry Brawl

There were remarkable scenes at the Star Sixes on Sunday evening as former Liverpool teammates, Michael Owen and Jason McAteer, got involved in a brawl during England's win over Republic of Ireland.

The Star Sixes is a six-a-side tournament featuring some of the legends of football as they represent their national teams at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, and it has sparked into life!

An England side featuring the likes of Owen, David James, Emile Heskey, Wes Brown, Darren Bent and Paul Konchesky (yes, we are using the word 'legend' very loosely when describing this tournament) secured their place in the final with a 1-0 win over the Irish.

However, it was an incident during the game that caught the headlines!

There was a coming together as Ireland's McAteer pulls Owen, who lashes out by kicking his opponent and they then got involved in a bit of handbags.

However, it was McAteer who was shown a red card and Owen somehow got away with his petulant kick!

McAteer was not happy as he unleashed his fury on the referees when talking pitch side after the incident...

McAteer told Sky Sports...

There was a coming together, we spun round, and then Michael Owen decided he wanted to lash out.

I decided I didn't want to let him get away with it. The referee obviously didn't see it or didn't want to see it.

He didn't want to see it because it was England and Michael Owen, more to the point...

How is that not a red card? I'll tell you why it's not a red card, because it's Michael Owen and it's England.

The officials are that bad!

What do you make of the incident? The pair may be getting on in years but it is clear the competitive edge hasn't disappeared!
