Jadon Sancho may not be out showcasing his talent on the international stage at Euro 2020 – a few minutes against Czech Republic aside – but he is sure to set the Premier League alight with Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has finally got his man after a transfer saga that went to the wire last year but to no avail. Credit must be given to the club for not making the same mistake again and getting their number one target in early so that he will link up with his new boss and teammates for pre-season ahead of what should be an exciting season for United fans.
Sancho, one of the Bundesliga’s hottest talents, will be returning to a city he knows well after being on Manchester City’s books before taking the brave step to move to Germany and build his career there. It was a decision not all 17-year-olds would take but, as his stats in the Bundesliga have shown, it is a move that has paid dividends.
The player has enjoyed a fruitful four years at Borussia Dortmund as he has established himself as one of the biggest young talents in football. In 104 Bundesliga games, Sancho scored 38 goals and assisted 51, despite only recently turning 21. United will not be getting the finished article but he is already performing at an elite level consistently and it is a signing that could spark the mutterings of a title charge – something Old Trafford has not experienced for almost a decade.
A player with frightening acceleration and sublime footwork to put the frighteners up defenders, Sancho’s arrival will lift the United fans and will further highlight Solskjær’s intentions to take this club to the heights that it demands. This addition will lead attackers already at the club to be looking over their shoulders. With a player of Sancho’s quality and the significant transfer fee laid out to acquire his services, it would be financially ludicrous for him to not be a key figure for Solskjær’s side for next season and beyond.
Players like Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood will be at risk of being dropped to the bench in place of Sancho but this is where his arrival could also benefit the side as a whole. It will significantly improve competition for places, which will only increase the players’ determination to improve themselves in training to give their boss some much-needed headaches. And that is what is needed for United’s next step on the pathway back to competing for the Premier League title.
The two attacking players, as well as Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani will be delighted at his arrival as it will offer another creative dynamic to United’s forward line and it will surely amount to more goals next season as United look to go toe-to-toe with rivals Manchester City. Cavani is a forward who thrives off service as well as being able to create spectacular moments out of nothing so he will be hoping to stay injury-free for the season so that he can play alongside Sancho.
This signing is the key to Manchester United moving forward. Sancho’s ability is clear to see and he has got the big Premier League return he has dreamed of since he left for Germany in 2017. The players already in the side will improve with his presence. The 21-year-old has also proven that he can help relieve the goalscoring burden, so Solskjær knows he will see goals from the wide-man as well as assists.
United fans can really get excited for where the club is heading, and although it has taken time and a considerable amount of patience, the squad has slowly been restructured to where it is now and there are just a few pieces of the jigsaw missing. Sancho has come in as one of those key pieces, and while there will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders, he has already shown it does not faze him as he has performed consistently at Dortmund for the last four years.
It is the signing the club have been crying out for for the last two years and, now that it has happened, Sancho comes in with valuable experience but he still has much time to further develop his game and become the great finished product he is destined to be.
