The November meeting at Cheltenham is an enjoyable three days for National Hunt fans but one William Hill punter might just have taken more joy out of it than anyone this year.
They picked out two horses on Friday’s card at the home of the winter game, along with two more from elsewhere, and stuck them together in a four-fold accumulator and staked £14 on them all coming home with their heads in front.
That quartet was: The Young Master to take the 12:40 at Cheltenham at odds of 9/2, Count Meribel to land the 2:25 at the same course at 5/1, Jet Master to win the 1:40 at Newcastle at 9/4 and, finally, Castle Hill Cassie to claim the 6:45 at Wolverhampton at a lofty 13/2.
Combining them raked him or her in a cool £11,261.25, but it all could have fallen to pieces as the bet looked in jeopardy while the third selection was running.
Count Meribel was putting in a fine effort and right in contention to take the Steel Plate And Sections Novices' Chase when making a bad error and almost unseating Mark Grant.
The jock managed to stay onboard and recover and, having lost all that momentum, Count Meribel showed tremendous heart to get his head back in front up the hill and claim the narrowest of wins.
Have a look at the will to win that the Nigel Twiston Davies-trained runner had to show to keep this slip alive and ultimately land a superb touch for this racing fan.
Penny for his or her thoughts as it battled all comers on the run in!
Which of these Novice Chasers impressed you most?
