Jockey Hayley Turner Lucky To Escape Serious Injury From Horse Kick At Newmarket

Horse racing can be a dangerous business and Haley Turner almost found that out to her cost at Newmarket on Thursday.

The Group 1 winning jockey was thrown off her horse in the parade ring on Thursday afternoon and having looked like she had avoided danger by landing on her feet, the horses decided he wasn't quite done..

Just as Turner was walking away from Ip Dip, the horse kicked out and managed to catch the 35-year-old jockey right on the backside!

Turner was lucky to escape serious injury as she was pushed several meters by the horse in what could have been a terrifying situation. Jockeys are made of stern stuff though and Turner was happy to hop back on the upset horse in a bid to get down to the start.

In the end, the horse was clearly not in the best mood and was withdrawn before the start but it was remarkable to see Turner look so nonchalant about a moment which could have been extremely serious.

Few sports people can match jockeys for toughness and their will to win, and this was on show once again on Thursday afternoon.

Turner has ridden countless winners across the globe and in doing so earned a reputation as a top jockey in the UK over the past ten years, but she is clearly as tough as she is brave.

Thankfully on this occasion Turner was left unhurt although she no doubt woke up with a bruise or two this morning.

Imagine how many rolls Neymar would have done if he was hit in the same manner...
