Johnny Nelson Sees ''Realistic'' Chance Of Amir Khan Getting Kell Brook Fight

Amir Khan has packed his reality TV career away in the attic and announced his attention to lace up his gloves once more.

The former light-welterweight world champion, who last fought in 2016, has announced that he has signed a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn and his Matchroom Sports.

His comeback fight will be held at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on 21 April of this year.

The Sportsman was at the unveiling of the partnership and managed to catch up with former cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson, who now works as a television pundit, and asked him his views on the announcement and what the future holds for Khan.

He said he thought the move to sign with Hearn was a shrewd one by Khan.

“I think it was a real good business move by Amir,” he said. ‘It seems like he’s using brain as well as brawn.”

Asked about potential opponents for his return bout, Nelson was keen to stress that, after such a long time out, the Bolton-native would need a gentle reintroduction, he insisted: “you don’t want to throw him in at the deep end.”

And, assuming his return goes smoothly, what next? We’ve seen the focus of the boxing world move toward the UK of late, having been US-centric for so long, and Nelson reckons another all-English super fight might be on the cards.

“I’m sure when this deal was being discussed Kell Brooke’s name was brought up ... now there’s a more realistic chance … of that happening.”

What an event that would be!
