Manchester United fans looking at today's Jose Mourinho's programme notes for today's game against Newcastle United will be feeling less than inspired.
Rather than use the platform to bang the drum and get supporters on side after another soap-opera week at Old Trafford, Mourinho has penned a dull, short message where he makes an obtuse point about how many Champions League points the Red Devils currently have.
Reports last night suggested Mourinho was about to be sacked - even if they beat Newcastle later.
The Portugese boss writes: “Good afternoon and welcome back to Old Trafford.
“Today, as we welcome Rafa Benitez, the Newcastle United players and their supporters to Old Trafford, our attention is back on the Premier League and making sure that we sign off for the upcoming international break with a positive result.”
“After today’s game we have two weeks, then we go straight into games against Chelsea, in the Premier League, and Juventus, in the Champions League.
“For the moment, we have the most points of any English team in the Champions League, and it is a big responsibility for us to maintain that in our next group match against the super team, Juventus.
“With such huge games coming up later in the month, it would obviously be good for our confidence to end this current run of fixtures with an important victory this afternoon at home. Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy the game.”
Uplifting words Jose ... I'm sure the fans will lap this up.
