Katie Taylor defended her two lightweight world titles with a unanimous points victory over Cindy Serrano in Boston.

The Irish fighter dominated the encounter, winning all ten rounds at Boston’s TD Garden in front of a partisan crowd to hold on to her IBF and WBA belts.

It was explosive an affair as some of her previous fights had been, with her opponent seemingly keen on self-preservation at the price of a shot at victory.

“She didn’t really have much at all,” Taylor said of her opponent. “She was very slow, very weak on the inside.

“I actually expected a lot more from Cindy tonight. It is hard to take someone out when they’re so defensive for the whole 10 rounds. I think she was just there to survive — that was quite evident, I think, from the first round.

So much so that the Bray native felt compelled to taunt her opponent within the ring to try and tempt her out of her shell.

She may well have been inspired by the pre-fight visit to her dressing room by another star of combat sports and a compatriot, the UFC star Conor McGregor, who said he was in Boston on the night purely in support of her.

Her daredevil stunts, willing Serrano to take a swing at her, didn’t manage to provoke the desired reaction from her opponent but her channelling of ‘The Notorious’ and other in-fight play-acters before her is still well worth a watch regardless!
