A Leandro Trossard hat-trick earned Roberto De Zerbi a valuable first point in charge of Brighton & Hove Albion as they held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw at Anfield.

The Belgian put the Seagulls two goals in front in the first-half before Roberto Firmino struck twice and an Adam Webster own goal turned the game on its head. But Trossard capped off an impressive individual performance to rescue a hard-fought point against the Reds.

Liverpool started the game slowly and Brighton took full advantage. The Reds failed to clear their lines and Leandro Trossard did brilliantly to work his way past Trent Alexander-Arnold before dispatching a drilled effort into the bottom corner. The Seagulls had a great chance to double their lead within minutes as Danny Welbeck’s header from close range was denied by Alisson.

The Reds struggled to regroup and get into any rhythm and it didn’t take long for Brighton to double their lead as Trossard fired in from the left side of the box to grab his second of the game. In grabbing his brace, the Belgian became the first visiting player to score a first-half brace in the Premier League at Anfield since Amr Zaki for Wigan Athletic in October 2008.

This sparked the hosts into life and Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold had a handful of chances as Liverpool started to grow into the game. They were able to halve the deficit through Roberto Firmino as he fired in from close range, although the goal was awarded after a VAR check.

Liverpool looked a lot sharper after scoring and they were able to level the scoreline minutes into the second half. Substitute Luis Diaz played a starring role in the goal as he worked his way forward before teeing the ball for Firmino who joined Trossard in scoring a brace. Liverpool completed the turnaround minutes later, but they were helped by their opponents. Robert Sanchez tried to punch away a cross, missed the ball and it bounced off Adam Webster into the back of the net.

Despite improving significantly after going behind, Liverpool will be left frustrated as they failed to put the game to bed and they now find themselves 11 points behind league leaders Arsenal which is going to be a huge concern.

Elsewhere, Chelsea came from behind to earn a late victory at Crystal Palace. Former Eagles loanee Conor Gallagher scored a stunning strike to win the game for the Blues in what was his first career goal for Chelsea. Odsonne Edouard put the home side ahead before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised before half-time.

At Craven Cottage, it was a great afternoon for Newcastle United as they comfortably won 4-1 against Fulham. A Miguel Almiron brace and strikes from Callum Wilson and Sean Longstaff completed the victory while Bobby Decordova-Reid scored a late consolation goal.  After Fulham saw Nathaniel Chalobah sent off inside the opening 10 minutes, things quickly unravelled.

Down at St Mary’s, three goals inside five minutes saw Everton come from behind to defeat Southampton 2-1. Goals from Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil cancelled out Joe Aribo’s opener. Also on the south coast, AFC Bournemouth played out a relatively dull 0-0 with Brentford as interim boss Gary O’Neil extended the Cherries’ unbeaten run to four.
